Corset 101 Video Blog: How to Measure for a Steel Boned Corset

Where Do I Put This Darn Measuring Tape?

Hello OC Blog Readers! We have many customers unsure about where and to measure for a corset.  We try to describe measuring tape placement in our sizing blogs-but a video really is worth a thousand words!

Corset 101 Video: How to Measure Yourself for a Corset

In this video, I show you where to place the measuring tape for the most accurate reading to use when determining what size corset you need. Then I go through what my measurements are and what size I wear in our 411, 426 and 305 underbust corset styles. The 426 and 411 I wear a size 22, but in the 305 I prefer a size 24 as it has less hip room (and I have hips).  The picture below shows me in both the 411 and the 426. I can easily close the bottom all the way on both (I don’t because it’s better for the corset to lace evenly).

Size 22 in both the 411 and the 426 on me.

Now that you’ve got your measurements head over to the sizing page of our website, give us your measurements, and one of our sizing experts will be happy to help you determine the style and size of corset that is right for you!

If there is a Corset 101 subject you would like us to cover-please leave a comment! We strive to educate our customers while enhancing their corset (and online shopping) experience. Happy Corseting Everyone!

I have been with Orchard Corset since June of 2012 and what a journey it has been! I've gone from complete newbie to Marketing Director to Chief Operations Officer and I've learned more about corsets, corseting, shapewear, social media and myself than I would have ever thought possible. I have really enjoyed the journey and we at Orchard Corset are dedicated to providing a wealth of information for new and seasoned corseters alike.

I am 5’4″ 135lbs and have watched the videos and need help! I don’t know which silhouette, size or style! I am looking to experiment with waist training as I am fairly straight up/down but do have some fluff/pot belly from having kids. My measurements are underbust 34, waist 32 and upper hip 35 – 35 1/2. I think an underbust corset would be best bet. I carry most of my fluff in lower belly. Thoughts on what size and style? Thanks in advance. Can’t wait to order.

I received my CS-305 in Satin and love it. I am currently in my second day of seasoning and I think that it is a good fit. However, apparently I am very squishy on top and look like a linebacker when wearing the corset due to back bulge. Is this fairly normal and/or do I have the wrong type for me? How do you combat it?

I think I am doing this backward, but…. I measured as per the video. I am short, 5’3″ and about 127 lbs. My measurements are Under bust 31″, Waist 30″, and Hips 35″. Listened to and read the information and just ordered the CS 411 in the 24″ size. Did I make a good choice. As I said, backwards…

Hello, I’m new to this & have a lot of fluff! I wanted to know what size to order in the 426. My measurements are 43.5 under bust, waist 47.5, upper hips 55.

      Hi Tia,

I think with those measurements you will want a size 38 or 40 (worried about the upper hip being too small in the 38…but that would be the best size for you everywhere else) in the 411 or the 426 if you have the length for it.

We love to hear from you!
