Corsets: Authentic vs Fashion

All Authentic Corsets are Fashionable

But What’s a Fashion Corset?

CS 709 Strapless Purple

Hello OC Blog Readers! I am back again to answer another FAQ we get here at Orchard Corset. We have many stunning authentic steel boned corsets to choose from-each one a fashion statement over or under your clothes. But make no mistake, these are high quality authentic steel boned corsets-not lingerie. We do, however, offer a selection of fashion corsets-both strapped and strapless-to add shape to your sizzle.

CS 799 Black with Straps

Fashion corsets have been around for a very long time- Frederick’s of Hollywood made quite a name for themselves selling them several years ago. A fashion corset usually has plastic or acrylic boning, and might even have some steel boning at the busk or laces. Generally they are of the overbust variety and make for very sexy lingerie that offers some slimming and shaping. Our fashion corsets (style numbers 709 and 799) have flexible steel boning, a full-length hook and eye closure up the front busk and lace up the back. These sexy and slimming fashion corsets offer a great push-up effect for your bustline and detachable garters to really spice things up! Fashion corsets are not designed for waist training or tight lacing ventures.

CS-411 Double Steel Boned Corset

Authentic steel boned corsets from Orchard Corset offer a 100% cotton inner layer for added strength and durability often required of authentic corsets, waist tape for cinching reinforcement, modesty panel (lacing guard), beautiful yet durable outer fabric layer and metal grommets. Our steel boned corsets are ideal for waist training, providing support, giving you knock-out curves, costumes and special events-or just to look amazing!

It’s important to note that sizing is VERY different for our fashion and authentic corsets. Fashion corsets are sized based on your bra size, and our steel boned corsets are sized using your natural waist measurement and other considerations. Corsets are very much in fashion right now: overbust, underbust, double-steel boned or fashion. Each corset is perfect for what it does-so know what you are looking for your corset to do and we guarantee you will be thrilled with it at Orchard Corset!

I have been with Orchard Corset since June of 2012 and what a journey it has been! I've gone from complete newbie to Marketing Director to Chief Operations Officer and I've learned more about corsets, corseting, shapewear, social media and myself than I would have ever thought possible. I have really enjoyed the journey and we at Orchard Corset are dedicated to providing a wealth of information for new and seasoned corseters alike.

  • She wears costumes all year long

I love corsets, and have been wearing them for decades, and I adore your 411 corsets the best (I have one in red satin and one in brown leather).

However, I have yet to see any sign of them being “in fashion” anywhere other than on websites which sell corsets.

When I wear them in public over my clothing I get stares, and not just for my rocking curves, but also for the novelty of wearing what is perceived to be a costume piece as street wear.

This happens much more in Texas than it did in Hollywood, to be sure, but could you direct me to some outside fashion links showing corsets as street wear “du jour”?

      Hi There…

I certainly get looks in my small town when I wear one out! I thnk it will be a while before places outside of NYC and LA begin to see corsets as more commonplace. Perhaps they are not meant to look common…but extraordinary! I am sure a search on google or Pinterest would garner some results. I think many women still wear them underclothing. But I can see wearing this out for a night of clubbing or some other grand evening event.

Years ago I went in search online for a site or blog that showed different ways to incorporate underbust corsets into everyday fashion (overbusts are kind of easy to do this with, but underbusts- not so much) and I came up with very little; maybe a random photo here and there in a google image search, but that was about it, so I just started snapping pics of my own outfits and posted them to my Myspace page (back when myspace was still relevant lol). I think the OC website does a swell job of displaying different casual and daily outfits in their product images. Actually, they’re the only site I know of that does that. Other sites just show the corset itself, just kind of floating there, or a model wearing it over the same plain black tank top in every single image, or a bedroom-appropriate-only attire. OC definitely gives buyers a good look at the many, many ways authentic steel-boned corsets can be incorporated into daily wear.

I will make sure I take some photos in my corset when I’m out and about. Yes sometimes you get looks but you do not have to “Sizzle” just because you have a corset on. My favorite look in public is a pair of stretch pants or yoga pants with a longer sweater on and a corset over the top. My bum is covered, my sweater still looks attractive and my waist is very apparent.

I really hope that more people come to view it as more than just a walk on the wild side. My corset gives me wonderful back pain relief as well as better posture with the corset on or off.

We love to hear from you!
